Who is responsible

Happy Trailing is operated by Happy Trailing B.V. ("we", "us"). For all privacy questions, contact info@happytrailing.com.

Which data we process

We only collect data necessary to provide our service.

• Account data — your email address and username.
• Training data — trail plans and the GPS routes of runners and handlers that you record, plus weather conditions, evaluations, dogs and saved locations you enter. GPS is recorded only after you grant location permission in your browser or on your device, and only while a tracking session is active.
• Videos — recordings you upload to trails (premium feature).
• Preferences — language, distance and temperature units.
• Technical data — sign-in times and IP addresses, used to secure your account and prevent abuse.

Why we process it

We process this data to provide the Happy Trailing service you signed up for (performance of the agreement) and to keep accounts secure (legitimate interest). We do not use your data for advertising, profiling or sale to third parties.

Who we share it with

We only share data with the subprocessors needed to run the service, each bound to a data processing agreement.

• Postmark (email delivery) — receives your email address to send account and notification emails.
• OpenFreeMap (map tiles) — your browser downloads map images directly from their servers, which exposes your IP address to them like any website visit.
• TransIP (hosting, Netherlands) — hosts the app and the database on servers in the EU.
• Amazon Web Services (video storage, Europe) — stores your uploaded videos on servers in the EU.
• Other users you train with see the training data you share with them through the app's visibility and user-access features.

Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete individual trails, videos and accesses yourself at any time; deleting trails and videos is permanent. When your account is deleted, the trails you ran as a handler and your uploaded videos are destroyed; trails you trained on or ran as a runner are kept by their owner with your name removed where the system allows. Server access and error logs are kept for a maximum of 30 days for security and troubleshooting, then deleted.

International transfers

Happy Trailing is hosted and operated in the EU. One subprocessor, Postmark (email delivery), is based in the United States; transfers of your email address to them are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Your browser contacts OpenFreeMap directly for map tiles (see "Who we share it with"); no other data leaves the EU.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies. The app uses one strictly necessary session cookie to keep you signed in. There is no advertising or tracking technology anywhere, so no consent banner is needed.

Your rights

• Access and rectification — view and correct your data in the app or ask us.
• Erasure — delete your data or account.
• Export — trail routes can be exported as GPX files from within the app.

Security and incidents

We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords and server-side access control on every action. In case of a security incident affecting your data, contact info@happytrailing.com.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will notify registered users by email before the change takes effect.
